vegan cooking

A vegan lifestyle can support a healthy lifestyle and protect animals, while simultaneously combating climate change. Plus, the food can be insanely delicious and becomes more widely available every year. We are happy to introduce vegan cuisine to our students as well.

But first… morning Yoga on the beach

There’s nothing better than yoga on the beach on a sunny Sunday. Thanks to our amazing volunteer yoga instructors, our guests, staff, and students can enjoy this relaxing practice with the sand between their toes, the sound of the waves, and the sun on their faces. Om!

Vegan Culinary Workshop

Our guests have a variety of dietary restrictions, and Maringi Sumba aims to please. Four vegan chefs from around the world held a four-day workshop for our Culinary students teaching them about and how to prepare raw foods and vegan cuisine. Who knew you could make so many tasty treats with tofu! Staff and students enjoyed tasting the fruits (and nuts) of their labor. Bon appétit!

Tasting of students’ vegan masterpieces

Everyone on campus loves when our Culinary and Restaurant & Bar Departments collaborate in preparing a delicious array of tasty treats and unique beverages. Students are so proud to prepare these mini-feasts for staff and students to share their creative food and beverage offerings. They are almost as wonderful looking as they are deliciously tasting. We are so proud of how creative and professional our students are becoming.

A Sustainable world thanks to SHF’s initiatives

As an active member of our community in Southwest Sumba, Sumba Hospitality Foundation continues our efforts in promoting environmental-friendly practices and creating a sustainable world, one small corner at a time. Nearly every month, Sumba Hospitality Foundation staff and students partner with local agencies to educate and empower the community in utilizing sustainable practices. Our group trash walks promote an “each one, teach one” philosophy, demonstrating the ease and importance of environmentally sustainable living. The result is cleaner streets, markets, and beaches, but more importantly giving the gift of knowledge that will spread for generations to come.
