July 12th proved to be a very special day for Sumba. The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, arrived to attend both the Tenun Ikat Festival and the Sandalwood Festival in the region of Sumba Barat Daya.
He spoke to a crowd of over 2000 people, all hoping to catch a glimpse of their inspirational leader. Any idea where the president stayed for the night? Unfortunately, not at our own eco-resort, Maringi Sumba. However, the President’s Paspampres (Pasukan Pengaman Presiden), his secret service and security, stayed in Maringi’s 5 guest pavilions during the days leading up to the president’s arrival. Needless to say, their presence provided an exciting spectacle for everybody on campus!
