Our founder, Inge De Lathauwer, came for one week with 9 friends to visit and see how the students were progressing as well as celebrate her birthday with her extended Sumba Hospitality Foundation family.
Her friends organized a jewelry workshop, tree planting, interviews, and photographed our students to make a yearbook. The Restaurant and Bar students practiced their event planning by organizing a party, Housekeeping and Front Office students decorated the restaurant and multifunction room, and the Culinary students were busy all day making cakes and delicious food.
Solar Panels, the best birthday present ever
Lastly, the Sumba Hospitality Foundation passed a huge milestone in our story by switching off the public power grid to being powered by our solar panels. Thanks to Prosol, the company that installed the solar farm and MEP, Inge De Lathauwer was able to personally flip the switches and since November 22, 2016, we have been running completely on solar energy!
